My Yogurt Balls With Herbs & Spices

Hi my dear page visitors. I am just in love with these yogurt balls. Aren’t they gorgeous? They look like jewels.

Yogurt or as we call it in Farsi: mast ماست , can be high in protein, calcium, vitamins, and live culture and These can offer protection for bones and help prevent digestive problems. Yogurt may boost your health when consumed repeatedly . 

 The following recipe is Cool, creamy and full of flavours! Because, these tiny yogurt balls covered with different herbs and spices. These refreshing little yogurt balls will become your favourite light snack! I mean it is just plain yogurt, but you can spice it with your favourite herbs, nuts and seeds and then here we go, you have a big plate full of flavourfully yogurt balls.

This is one of my favourite appetizer dishes and if you make it for a party, Your guests delight in its exotic yet familiar taste.

They look like jewels. Full of colour, Very healthy, light and tasty snacks. It is fantastic when you see how easy yogurt transform into these tasty balls.

Ingredients

  • 500g Greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp salt

For topping you have myriad choices from dried herbs and seeds, to spices and nuts

  • Dried herbs such as: dill, mint, oregano, chives,
  • Smoked paprika
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Chilli flakes
  • Dried rose petals
  • Chopped walnuts

Instructions

Mix salt and yogurt together. Line a large colander or strainer with cheese-cloth and set over a medium deep bowl and Place the yogurt in cheesecloth or kitchen cloth.

Gather edges of cheesecloth to cover the yogurt and Tied up the corners.. let drain for 24 hours , until all liquid left in the bowl.

Result will be a thick and creamy yogurt). Shape yogurt into little balls. Once you made yogurt balls , you may keep plain yogurt balls in a jar with some olive oil or topping and coating with herbs or spices.

These yogurt balls are the perfect party appetizer. It is super easy to make and they can be prepared in advance. Arrange yogurt balls on a platter and serve as they are or as a spread on top of salty crackers and breads and Enjoy it! And keep leftovers refrigerated up to 3-4 days.

I share my recipes in Farsi/English along with step by step photos of preparation. I take all my own pictures. I have learned my traditional Persian and Azerbaijani recipes from my lovely mother, and she has learned from her mother. Over the years, I have experimented and learned more recipes. Some of my recipes are a fusion Western and Middle Eastern cuisine. Some are forgotten from Persian cooking tables and I try with posting and sharing those ones, to preserve them.
